What should be used to cover insulation in a basement, if one does not want to use gypsum?

Article 9.10.17.10 of the NBCC requires protection against fire for insulating foam plastics. Coverings accepted for this purpose and minimum thicknesses to meet coverage are described in Subsections 9.29.4 to 9.29.9 of the NBCC. Coverings accepted include gypsum, plywood, hardboard, insulating fiberboard, particle board, wood chips and oriented chips.
